A special edition of the 14th Seasplash Festival<\/strong> is heading our way and is dedicated to the sound system<\/strong> culture. During the festival, the dominant majority of regional sound systems<\/strong>, present and active on the scene, will be introduced, as well as a few guests from abroad.<\/p>\n

As soon as it came to life, Seasplash Festival<\/strong> was one of the first events to start promoting the sound system<\/strong>. Half way till today, on the 7th festival edition to be exact, we introduced the DubSplash<\/strong> stage, which is where the first Croatian sound system called Digitron<\/strong> performs as the resident.<\/p>\n

It’s a culture descended from Jamaica, which implemented via their immigrants and gained popularity throughout the ’90s in Great Britain. Since then, its popularity is rising continuously, being one of the fastest growing subculture festival trends in Europe and beyond. In the context of popular culture, the sound system<\/strong> is a group of DJs, sound engineers and MCs that play reggae and other related music. On this occasion, a special feature is that the musicians come equipped with sound systems<\/strong>, usually handmade. That way, besides the selection, performance and style distinctiveness, each sound system<\/strong> introduces itself with their own sound.<\/p>\n

But before all that, it is appropriate to introduce some of the guest performers which we announce on this occasion:<\/p>\n

DON LETTS<\/a> (U<\/a>K)<\/a><\/h3>\n

Don Letts\u2019<\/strong> reputation has been firmly established in both the film and music world by a substantial body of work from the late 70’s through the 80’s, 90\u2019s and well into the millennium. His work has been exhibited in The Kitchen N.Y.C<\/strong>, The Institute of Contemporary Art<\/strong>, The N.F.T<\/strong> in London and was honored at Brooklyn\u2019s BAM<\/strong> festival and The Milan Film<\/strong> festival. In March 2003 he won a Grammy<\/strong> for his documentary Westway To The World<\/em><\/strong>…<\/p>\n

ABASSI HI POWER (UK\/D)<\/a><\/h3>\n

Abassi Hi Power<\/strong> is the custom built 12 kilowatt sound system that is run out of Cologne, Germany by Neil Perch<\/strong> of Zion Train<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

DUB INVADERS – High Tone Crew (F)<\/a><\/h3>\n

Dub activists since the early 2000\u2019s, High Tone<\/strong> has continuously evolved their music throughout their albums, constantly exploring new soundscapes, ready to free themselves from their own codes to create a hybrid and modern sound.<\/p>\n

DUBATEERS feat. BROTHER CULTURE (UK)<\/a><\/h3>\n

East London based Dubateers has and continues to produce some of the heaviest UK dub and reggae music to have ever hit the streets. Dubateers firmly holding to their foundations as an underground sound<\/em> outfit, based on original rastafarian values.
