A Shade of Black is a project that was launched in 1994 by Paul Fox and Jonah Dan with Julian Ryan. In the same year they released their first 12” “War and Peace” followed by dub album called “Shades of Dub”. Soon Julian went his own way, and Paul and Jonah continued with the production. In year 2002 they released instant classic 12” Friend or Enemy/ Fight for the Right and album “Sounds of Time”. Till today they have released lot of tunes of which we highlights: ‘Shades of Dub’ (album), ‘Friend or Enemy/ Fight for the Right’ (12″), ‘This is not the end/ Light Years with Jimmy Ranks’ (12″), ‘Hard Times/ Over I’ (12″) i ‘Ceasefire (Mykal Roze)/ Poverty’ (10″)…

Paul Fox is singing, plays and produces for a two decades. His first release 12” named ‘Writing on the Wall/ African Mask’ was recorded in a Manasseh studio back in 1992 for Sound Business label. Tune became very popular on all dub sessions throughout the UK. Then came his first album “Ease up the Pressure” for label Word, Sound and Power. Since then he has worked with various producers and record labels included album Positive Thinking and 7” ‘Jah Bless Mandela’. In year 2008 Paul has released two CDs – ‘Great Expectations’ i ‘Dub Expectations’ featuring Michael Rose, and joins as a vocal to the cult British dub / reggae band called Alpha & Omega that today constitute: co-founder Christine Woodbridge, Dan I, Jonah Dan and Paul Fox. Together they released album named “Song from the Holy Mountain” in 2009.

Jonah Dan is a musician, producer and songwriter that comes from Great Britain. During his long career he has earned the title most recorded bongo player in Europe. His biggest role model was his mentor, the legendary Jamaican percussionist Noel Skully Simms. Part of his childhood he spent in Dominican Republic where he fell in love with bongos. In 1974 he returned to his native England, and in the 1977 inspired by Jah Shaka he established his own sound system called the Black Scorpion. In the late 70’s Jonah has formed the band Roots Foundation, with relatives and friends, for which he wrote his first texts.10 years later he formed second band named Street Service. During the nineties he has collaborated with numerous artists around the world such as: Sister Rasheda, Russ Disciple, Roots Hitek, Nomadic Roots, Barry Isaac, Prince Malachi, Bush Chemist, Mannaseh, Danny Vibes, Alpha & Omega, Jah Warrior…
